NASSAU, The Bahamas – Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Hubert A. Minnis is keeping his Government’s commitment to support and facilitate the use of solar panels and other forms of renewal energy aimed at reducing the cost of energy.

On Thursday, December 6, 2018 he delivered remarks at the showcasing of a new solar parking structure at Nassau Agencies Ltd. on Jerome and Mt. Pleasant avenues.

With the aim to “Go Green,” president of Nassau Agencies and Bahamas Energy & Solar Supplies Godfrey Thomas said he is aware of the high cost of energy for the less fortunate, and that solar and other green energy can help lessen the burden. The parking structure is built to withstand 180 mph hurricane force winds.

Impressed by the structure and the move to “Go Green,” the Prime Minister said in an era where Climate Change is a threat to sustainable development, his government is pushing towards solar energy installations across the country.

He said The Bahamas is blessed with “marvelous sunlight” – natural energy at no cost and that alternative energy is in keeping with his government’s mandate to reduce costs to consumers.

The Prime Minister said that a dream of his is to see each home in The Bahamas become a self-sustaining energy source. He also envisions an “internet energy revolution” where neighbours share their energy supplies with each other.

He added that the government’s affordable land project whereby residents can purchase lots at $30,000 or less, also allows for bringing in building materials and household supplies – to include solar panels – duty free.

And, in keeping with energy saving goals he said by the year 2021, he intends to have electrical vehicles assigned at the Office of the Prime Minster.  The government already has a fleet of electric vehicles assigned to some of its other offices and hopes to acquire more, the Prime Minister confirmed.
