The Department of Public Service comes under the direct supervision of the Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Elizabeth Keju. In her capacity as the Establishment Secretary, the Acting Permanent Secretary, through the staff at the department deals with those establishment matters which include:
- Ensuring that the various Ministries and Departments of The Public Service are adequately staffed.
- The grading and classification of posts in relation to levels of responsibility, job difficulty and qualifications required for appointment.
- Assessing levels and determining rates of remuneration, salaries, fees and allowances such as travel, overtime, acting responsibilities and subsistence.
- Advising on the efficient organization and work flow of Ministries and Departments, (Organization and Methods).
- Determining all other terms and conditions of service such as leave, passages, contractual matters, etc.
- Staff relations and negotiations with Unions.
- Participating in allocation of office accommodation and ancillary leases.
- Assisting The Government Corporations and various authorities, e.g. Public Hospital's Authority and Airport Authority (PHA/AA) with respect to formulation of conditions of service, pension benefits, etc.
